Due to their continued growth success an opportunity has become available for a Geo-Environmental Consultant or Senior Consultant to join their Leeds office.
Due to thier increasing market presence, from the completion of a number of successful projects and commissions, our client is now seeking a motivated and ambitious Geo-environmental Consultant or Senior consultant to join their growing Leeds team. The successful applicant would be responsible for project management of a range of geo-environmental projects, mentoring junior staff, project financial and commercial management and client care.
The Ground Risk & Remediation division delivers site investigation, contaminated land assessment and remediation services, across a diverse range of projects within the financial, development, infrastructure and industrial sectors.
The position would suit those with a background in environmental geo-science and/or site investigation who would like to further develop their technical consultancy skills in the contaminated land sector.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, practically minded, organised, confident and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. A degree in the following or associated science/engineering disciplines is required: Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, Applied Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
A post-graduate qualification would be advantageous, although not essential.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate good experience and working knowledge of the following areas of work:
Technical & Operational
Strong experience in managing and supervising Phase I and Phase II geo-environmental investigations including soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in situ testing;
Experience in and qualifications relevant to the gas utilities industry (eg Utility SHEA, SCO 1&2) would be advantageous;
Factual and interpretative report writing including Generic Qualitative Risk Assessment (GQRA) for human health and controlled waters;
Clear appreciation of the ground engineering aspects of development projects;
Excellent verbal, written and communication skills with the ability to factually check technical information with an attention to detail;
Understanding and experience of HSE management in the context of geo-environmental projects;
Understanding of the importance of project planning and the ability to follow plans, seeking guidance where required;
Experience and proficiency in using GIS and AutoCAD packages would be advantageous; and
Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Ability to communicate openly and effectively;
Be confident to ask questions to understand objectives and expectations;
Ability to work under initiative and be self-motivated;
Excellent organisational skills;
A full UK driving licence is essential;
Flexible attitude to time management, travelling, office based and site works; and
Ability to work consistently and methodically under pressure, meet deadlines and achieve goals.
Experience in working closely with a geo-environmental project team and with an interest in managing, mentoring and encouraging less experienced colleagues; and
Ability and confidence in working with contractors and other stakeholders during site work;
Understanding of the need to focus on client care in all aspects of delivering a project;
Understanding of the importance of the business development strategy;
Awareness of networking strategies within team;
Provides support in the development of proposals and bids; and
Awareness of client needs in context of project involvement.
