Job Description:
Our client enjoys a reputation as one of the country's leading consultants to the built, natural and social environment, employing in excess of 2500 people within a diverse geographical spread throughout the UK and Europe. They are a fast growing and progressive organisation operating within all of the mainstream planning, environmental and engineering disciplines which puts them in the unique position of having an order book extending into the year 2010. The stability and growth of the company has attracted the very best staff with the promise of progressing and expanding their careers.

The company now has a vacancy for an Associate Ecologist in the Midlands to join a substantial existing team of full-time ecologists in the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to play a key role in developing the company's ecological business stream.

The ideal candidate would be responsible for managing and undertaking a wide variety of ecological projects, maintaining and developing a diverse client base in the region and more widely across the UK and assisting in the management of a well-established team of ecologists. They would be expected to direct and manage more junior staff to ensure project objectives are achieved, manage project programmes, resources and budgets to ensure projects are delivered to client requirements and return appropriate financial outcomes for the Company, liaise with and present technical information to other professionals and clients, manage and develop clients, develop effectively new and existing business and have an astute commercial and practical understanding of business.

The company are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, confident, self-motivated, dynamic and able to work as part of a team. They need to show a demonstrable commitment to the environmental sector and a genuine passion for ecology whilst at the same time being keen to further a career in environmental consultancy.

They must have a relevant degree and membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. IEEM, SocEnv) as a minimum. They need experience covering a range of taxa, preferably with specialist knowledge of a particular species/species group; good knowledge of relevant UK and European legislation; demonstrable business development skills; staff management experience; good IT skills and a full driving licence. They must have extensive post-graduate experience, preferably in the consultancy sector
